About

We grew-up in a culture that maintains the sun at the heart of its traditions, mythology, beliefs and cuisine. Throughout history, sunshine has been a main ingredient in our recipes in Egypt, some of which are slowly disappearing by time. Solar cooking is an economical way of cooking that is more forgiving to the environment than what we currently use in our households around the world. The sun being a decentralized source of energy, makes it readily available for the majority of people around the globe, at least for the duration of the summer.

We are two independent artists working with the community around Fekra cultural center in Aswan, Egypt. We chose Aswan as it is the sunniest city in Egypt and the 2nd sunniest in the world. In addition to the fact that the locals are rarely incorporated in collaborations in the Arts in Egypt. During our stay in Aswan this winter, we will research and document the ancient techniques of solar cooking, the recipes as per our ancient traditions and build our solar cooking device. The Host organization in Aswan, “Fekra Cultural Center” is supporting our project by providing us with crops from their land and facilitating a cultural exchange with the local people.
